ASE is a voluntary industry certification, not a government license. Pennsylvania does not require ASE certification to work as an automotive technician. Some states require state inspection licenses for specific work (Pennsylvania requires a Certified Emissions/Enhanced Inspection Program licensing for inspection-related tasks).
